good audio - from the source -  1149 days ago

The audio aspect of a production is essential. If you’re tempted to just focus on the camera & lighting side of things or don’t know much about what’s needed, then read thisopen letter to directors from a concerned consortium of audio professionals.

Some of the highlights:

1. Don’t say “We’ll use ADR” unless absolutely necessary. Better to rerecord the dialogue on set than to do expensive and time-consuming studio sessions later.

2. Try to identify potential sound problems BEFORE the shoot begins

3. Every member of the crew must do their part to minimize sound problems. This is a point I’ve had personal experience with. On an interview we were conducting for TV show, the gaffer’s assistant noisely walked (stomped!) down the stairs as we were rolling. Talk about annoying…

4. Atmospheric sound is an integral part of bringing your story to life. Collaborate with your audio tech just as you would your set designer or DP in order to bring your vision to reality.

My summary in the 2 cents version, but the whole article is worth a read when you have a moment.
