There are new rules in effect for air travelers as of the first of this year. For most of the traveling public, these rules probably won’t worry them. But for video professionals that fly with their gear, there could be some potential problems. Lithium Ion batteries are now only allowed to be brought on board a plane if they are up to 8-gram equivalent lithium content or 100 watt hours. If you have some spare batteries, you can have a combined total of 25-gram lithium ion content, or 200 watt hours. I’ve been following a thread about this on the CML-Pro e-mail loop, and there are several different interpretations as to what kind and how many batteries can be carried, but to be on the safe side, if you’re taking your Anton Bauer with you, you might need to call the airline ahead of time to double check what’s allowed. You’d hate to lose a $500 battery…
