Useful Site: Rent Training DVDs - 1071 days ago
Most of us don’t have the luxury of attending a DP’s master class, or sitting in on training sessions at NAB. I just discovered a new option to get your hands on some good info: Smartflix.com. It appears to work somewhat similar to Netflix, though there are a few important differences:
First, the cost PER video is usually 9.99, and that only covers a week of rental. Ouch! Second, “one week rental” means just that. You receive the vid on Wednesday, you must put it in the mail before the following Wednesday or you’ll be charged 9.99 again. When you rent, you’d better be ready to watch!
There appears to be quite a variety of vids available in the Film section, covering lighting, editing, producting etc. If you’ve been interested in pursuing further training, this might be a good option. $9.99/video seems steep, but it’s cheaper than owning them youself and WAY less than film school.
