How to get an Epiphany... -  Apr 11

“The aha moments grow out of hours of thought and study,” he says. “If you look at my innovations, there’s a common theme. I take something familiar, intuitive and ubiquitous and recast it in a manner that will redefine its use to drive profound change.”

What drives creativity and innovation? Though not specifically geared towards artistic creatives, this NY Times article still provides some food for thought on how to cultivate and grow creative ideas, preparing yourself for that exciting moment when the lightbulb switches on. There’s a great quote at the end of the piece from Louis Pasteur saying, “Chance favors a prepared mind.” I believe creativity comes ultimately from God, but He wants us to exercise and develop our gifts. Read, watch, play around with your camera, try to imitate the work of gifted filmmakers. Creativity probably is a large part preparation, so don’t spend your evenings, mornings or weekends being lazy. Learn and grow.

Film Crew Descriptions -  Oct 2

Film CrewIn the production industry, there’s a wide range of talents and skills which are instrumental in making a project successful. I can’t overstate how needed many of these various roles are. Without a good art department, your set will look amateur. Without a publicist, how is the word going to spread about your feature? Granted, many productions by necessity can only afford a limited amount of crew, and thus the staff has to wear more “job hats”. Even so, it’s good to see the roles the film industry makes use of – maybe you’ll realize an aspect of your production that was lacking. You can read the whole list at this HTML version of the Word document. If you want to download the actual document, go to this link
